Unlock Your Storytelling Potential with The Story Doctor

Hello there, fellow storytellers, writers and speakers!

First up, let me say thank you.

Thank you for navigating to this blog and taking the time to read.

I sense that you are here, because like me you love stories, have a story to tell, and/or you are interested in learning how to tell stories better.

Well, you are in the right place.

My name is Kathy-Ann C. Hernandez, and I am finally situating myself to do something that I have been preparing to do all my life — help others elevate their writing, speaking and leading through the power of story.

Are you interested? Well good! Read on.

Let me tell you a bit about myself and why you should trust that I am well able to help you achieve your story telling dreams.

I was destined to be a storyteller. It all began with my grandmother–a master storyteller. On many nights, I along with my sisters and cousins sat on long wooden benches on her Spanish styled verandah eagerly waiting for her to say those captivating words: “Once upon a time… ”  From the moment I first heard her say these words as a child, I was hooked.

Many years later, my professional journey has taken me down many unexpected paths. Yet, when I think about these various career detours and explorations as an author, a professor, a lifestyle blogger, a leadership consultant, a journal editor.. yada yada….one thing remains constant. It is this love I have for crafting and telling authentic stories that connect us to each other and our imperfect humanity.

Storytelling is an art form without limits.

When it comes to writing stories, I am a bit of a rebel. My storytelling crosses genres. It appears in authored and co-authored books, literary journals, peer-reviewed journals, online magazines, in blog posts, in devotional plans, memoir and self study writing, and video scripts etc. etc. In fact, story is the cornerstone of my practice at Nexe Consulting and my ministry at Value What Matters.  What can I say? I can’t help it. Story is what I do.

Here are two things that I especially love about the craft of storytelling.

Story Transcends Genres

Story transcends genre. Whether it is poetry, prose or presentations, academic or non-academic writing, fiction or non-fiction writing, there is a story underneath it all. Learning to capture and tell the underlying story is the secret ingredient for effective communication. Don’t believe there is a story in your dissertation, non-fiction book, or journal article? Yes, there is, and I can help you find it and tell it well.

Story is a Boundary Breaker

Story refuses to be confined by form or format. It demands that we push the limits and explore new territories. Storytelling is an art form without limits. I’m here to help you break free from the same old same old and release the full potential of your unique narrative voice–to write your memoir, blog, nonfiction book, devotional plans, engaging speech etc. etc.

Good story is the heartbeat of excellent writing and speaking.

Friend, here is the thing I am most convinced about: good story is the heartbeat of excellent writing and speaking.

Now, after years of honing my storytelling craft in diverse forms and settings, I get great joy from helping others craft stories that can heal hearts and transform lives, including their very own. I want you to experience the thrill of having someone tell you how your story, your book, and your message have transformed their lives. Or even better, I want you to experience the transforming effect of owning and sharing your story with the world. Let me tell you–that is a feeling worth chasing after.

So I hope you will stick around here at my little spot on the Internet for insights, writing tips, and strategies to help you elevate your writing, speaking, and leading through the power of story. And if you would like to fast-track your storytelling dreams, check out the services I offer to make that happen.
